Why Massage?

cropped-medium

Pregnancy is a time of great changes, when your entire body adapts to the new life growing within. You need and deserve support, especially since two people now depend on your health and vitality.

Easing aches and pains – Massage can help with many of the aches and pains you experience as your body changes.  For example, massage helps to:

  • Reduce excess fluid retention;
  • Reduce muscle cramps and painful trigger points;
  • Relieve pain in the muscles and joints of your legs, low back and upper back;
  • Increase flexibility, making it easier for your body to adjust to a changing shape;
  • Slow the progress of varicose veins;
  • Relieve headache;
  • Ease constipation, gas and heartburn.

Coping with stress and fatigue

A soothing massage can relieve physical and emotional tension, help you sleep better and boost your energy. Massage loosens tight muscles and calms the nervous system.  Circulation increases, bringing energy-producing nutrients to your cells.  In a massage you also become aware of your body, which helps you recognize tension as it builds during the day and consciously release it.

For your comfort

Depending on how far along in your pregnancy you are and how your body is feeling will depend on how your therapist will position you on the table.

Our massage tables are equipped with state of the art “Tempurpedic” memory foam technology  to give you the ultimate in comfort in whichever position you are in.

You will be covered with a sheet and light blanket everywhere except for where you are being massaged.  If your sense of smell is sensitive please ask for our unscented oil – otherwise a very light pleasant “Relaxing” essential oil blend will be used.  All oils are certified organic.

Please tell us if anything feels uncomfortable or if there are areas that you would rather not have massaged.

For you and your baby.

During the pregnancy all blood components are elevated to provide for fetal needs; by weeks 24 to 34, the plasma volume alone has increased by 40%.

Massage therapy helps provide regular blood flow to the uterus, placenta and fetus, promotes the delivery of oxygen and nutrients, and accelerates the removal of waste products, improving tissue health for you and your baby.
